Daily report #84

We

Don't leave tomorrow. This solidified lava pimple in the South Atlantic Ocean has given us a surprise. We have to stay a few more days. We have been invited to a wedding. Ha! Whether we want to be witnesses at a wedding. Apparently we are very much liked here. Naturally. We are the nicest guys on earth. Ha!
Tara and Steve are getting married. They arrived with us - by sailing boat - at St H. They from Namibia, we from South Africa. We met on Monday morning on the way to immigration and customs. And we have always kept in touch. With a beer. He an American from Seattle, she a Filipina with un-Filipino features. Nice couple, very entertaining. And he asked her to marry him yesterday. And said yes. How romantic. And today they asked us to be present at their wedding on this island and also to testify. That does mean that we have to sail really fast again to make up for these lost days, but who can refuse something like that? A truly great honor. Hence.

Today we also worked really hard in another area. The diesel and drinking water tanks are full, we did the shopping, had the laundry done and we climbed one of the seven wonders of St. H., the Jacob's ladder of 699 steps. That was a gasp of I have you there. But It worked. Then we went even further into the mountains to go to Jonathan. The oldest land animal on earth. A tortus. Turtle. Arrived by sailboat in about 1880 and then 50 years old. The one that stays in the garden of the Governor's home together with three other turtles. Really big turtles. We then visited an old fort (Fort Knoll) at a high point and slowly descended to Jamestown before finally taking the 699 steps back down. It is fantastic to view the island. It is very green and there are many eerie ravines and narrow roads to drive along. What is striking is that almost all houses have a view over the ocean. Fortunately, the English don't use house names. Ocean view would -I think- be the most sold. That enormous ocean around you is special. And what are all those people (5000) doing here?
On the way we visited Andy's place where we had something to drink and the owner made a sandwich with a local tomato dish that was really delicious. And once all the way down in Jamestown we are invited. Great, all hugs and kisses of course.

Also for you!

Greetings Mark and Ton.
