A big part of the journey from Sydney to a port in the Netherlands has been sailed with classic wooden ships centuries ago.
The VOC undertook this journey from Batavia to Europe in the same period of the year in order to get to Europe as efficiently as possible with favourable winds. We will do too. Three sailors from the Netherlands.
We start in Sydney. In this cosmopolitan city we bought Kalosini II and made her ready for the journey.
When we have sailed ourselves out of the ever busy Sydney harbour bay we will sail north along the east coast. This route gives us the chance to make unplanned stops. Plenty ports along the way. We will spend some time around the Great Barrier Reef.
After some snorkling we will sail through Torres Strait to Christmas Island. That will be our first long stretch of sailing.
The plan is to go to Mauritius next to join all those 62-year-old French retirees and pleasure them with our presence. A croissant with jam, butter and a cup of coffee will surely be on our plates when having breakfast.
Cape Town is the next stop. Dirk Zwart lives there. He expects visitors.
St. Helena, Ascension Island and the Azores/Cape Verde are also to be visited when sailing to the Netherlands. If all goes well.
We hope to arrive there in September. If all goes well.
