Daily Report #22

Dear Salt Shakers,
The Chief Engineer is sleeping well, it's Sunday. Everything broke yesterday that could have been done today, you have already read that. After closing the blog the genoa spontaneously shot out of its shots and we fished for another half hour before we had the eye under control and hooked the shots after which we made another 360 degrees (horizontal luckily) because the shots of the cutter jib were still stuck sat around the mast. The last as a conclusion in the dark.
In short, the chief engineer has a rest after he had done his laundry, which is now drying in the salty splashes.

Today is a beautiful sunny day. The wind just picks up to 5 which makes moving difficult but makes lying in bed easier. We have broken through the 2000 miles and have as I write 2995 miles to go. This morning we asked ourselves what is so beautiful about this long journey. It was quiet for a while….
But soon the musings come, The huge vast emptiness around you. The train of thoughts that can go through your head hour after hour without being disturbed by daily worries, memories that are stored on dolls like waves and again. The huge “mañana” feeling you have here. The dancing seagulls and endlessly floating frigate birds, the terns that greet you in the morning. A spouting whale, the antics of the flying fish that cheer you up if you look at the mileage counter for a little too long. The endless staring and of course the prospect that it will come to an end with a delicious Pastis on a terrace at the harbor ... in about 19 days. And then forgotten is the pain of the bruises, the salt that is everywhere, your bed that you can go outside sometimes, the nausea if you've been inside too long, the sweat and the salty waves in your neck and the rations of milk and water…….
Well, in short, we may have been here once and it is actually indescribable.

Regards, Mark and Ton
