On wheels.
That's it. Lots of sun, nice and warm, 15-20 knots of wind, more aft than beam. Not yet ideal because if we really had half the wind you would just run a knot faster. Another 160 miles of southern Atlantic Ocean. In other words, the equator. Sailing another ocean. That will be an extra sip of whiskey. Crossed the equator and sailed the ocean. Tomorrow afternoon I guess.
Just take it easy with the whiskey because we still have to sail a long stretch of the northern Atlantic Ocean and that could be less successful if you are struggling in the ocean with a piece in your collar. No problem. We are disciplined seafarers. We know the limits of decency. It's also my birthday soon, so we have to drink small amounts of the 200 ml of whiskey that is still in the bottle if we want to have some left for the birthday. 60 years already and still so active! After that we can switch to the gin and rum from St Helena, of which we still have 4 liters. These were not actually purchased for that purpose, but may be used when the realization dawns that I am really becoming an aging gentleman and the regression will accelerate. An extremely depressing thought. Of course I know that alcohol will not physically help to prevent regression - on the contrary - but being numbed for a while
to overpower all those bad thoughts would be welcome.
Picked a mini flying fish off the deck today. Dead. And last night we had two storm petrels on deck. Piggybacking. Resting. Who knows.
What experiences. Every day again.
Yesterday I finished De Groene Mijl by Steven King in one sitting. Wiping away tears. Also part of old age. The changing hormone levels make you a sentimental old fart. Super sensitive to stories about good and evil. Sniff. John Coffey. In that movie with Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecombe played by a tree of a black man. I think that actor has already passed away. I see those film images in my mind while reading the book. Very nice. I usually watch series, documentaries and films. I read books much less. But I couldn't download much on St Helena so I'm already through the moving images. So now I'm rereading those books I already had and saving some new books for later this week.
Not a moment of boredom. Delicious.
