Daily Report #56
Saturday, 5 August 2023
Dear Readers,
We almost got kicked out. No more predict wind. Then the email traffic and weather forecasts actually stop. Not so handy. I have less than usual disposable balance in one of my billing accounts. Because of all those drinking bouts in La Reunion, of course, and those few quarters we still had to spend on repairs, improvements and restocking, as well as the cost of our stay. Fortunately, the sat phone still worked and Sandra immediately made a deposit so it will be fine again. But the stress! Also with me of course. My stainless steel coffee cup has a dent. Got those cups from the Kohnstam family, about six. One with a dent, from when we almost ran out of PredictWind.
Mark has further perfected the water system with a slightly better pump - running water everywhere - and I put the navigation system on the 12V batteries. The one with the new solar panels and solar charge controller from Victron. Expensive, but the batteries are full again before morning and the fact that it is cloudy doesn't seem to bother them much either. At least then things won't go out when we start the main engine. Those Chinese batteries may not be your thing after all.
It continues to haunt us.
The wind.
