Past week past with docking and further putting the ship in order.
It's a big job. And since Sydney could be the most expensive city on earth, it's about time to leave as
we would want to save some money for the trip itself.
We had quite a few problems getting off the mooring and sailing to the wharf.
The hull and propeller were heavily overgrown after 5 months without care. Kalosini moved forward
at a snail's pace and was almost impossible to maneuver. It was tightly arranged at the White bay 6
yard. The hull was washed, the front valve hullthrough replaced and we were able to inspect
everything properly. Everthing allright. However, we could not paint AF on the hull ourselves since
you are not allowed to and having it done costs a lot of money. So we set off without a new layer.
Everything within 24 hours. No worries! There is still paint remaining to protect the skin and today's
paint is environmentally friendly so you get fouling anyway. After the refurbishment K2 made an
easy 6 knots and maneuvered like new. Wonderful!
Consecutively we have done a thousand and one jobs. Deck lighting installed, stern light moved, the
new home port stickered, license plates and name installed, halyards and pulleys secured, battens
secured, reef lines mounted, fuel system of generator and heater renewed, two new batteries of
400Ah in total installed and an extra solar panel installed. A leaking filter housing repaired, wires and
pipes secured, interior cleaned up and all tools neatly in the cupboards and we did the shopping.
Removed garbage and put all stores in place. It is very busy.
In the evening Nic sailed us through Sydney harbor and we ate a pizza on the CYCA. A nice conclusion
of or dealings together. A true 'mate' our Nic!
Today we also returned the rental car to the airport and voluntary listened to the life story of the taxi
driver without earplugs. Wonderful. We also have the Iridium Go up and running. A tricky story.
It is not a lie that you need about three days for installation and configuration for that stuff to work.
