Daily report #103
Saturday, 30 September 2023
Hi everybody,
Finally dry at 1am last night!! A beautiful sky with a full moon and sheep clouds. Delicious. Ton already wrote it the day before it was wet, terribly wet. Not only that, my 'bunk' also had to deal with a liter of initially salt and then fresh water. Yes, 'he who had to write a piece about that' simply fills his own comfortable bed! Window not closed properly. That's what happens with the changing weather. So I was disappointed and first had my 1.5 hour beauty sleep in the forecastle, then removed the bed, raised the mattress, turned on the fan and hoped it would all work out. It worked out well. What also worked out well was the car helmet. Just after sunset, the car helmet let us know that it also needed attention, so Ton cared for and cuddled the carbon brushes and after an hour it was running like a charm again. That's nice, because steering the motorcycle for days by hand is no fun. So that was last night. After the clear night, a scorching hot day that started with, as we often do, going through the dreams and then a conversation about friendship and what it can mean. Was a little wagon off the train of thought for a while. Then hung the wet stuff outside. After coffee, time for maintenance. Sail hoisted to take care of the engine. Dewater filters and sweep debris from under the engine. Install an air scoop to reduce the 100% humidity in the baking boxes. Because we were still sailing, I could immediately take a dip (third ocean) and look at the rudder. Everything is fine except that the barnacles are starting to grow vigorously. That will be a few hours of underwater crabbing on Cape Verde. Played for a while with a school of fish half under the boat. They ate algae and bugs off the rudder and I tried to play tag. They won. I was hoping for a school of dolphins like yesterday, but alas. The rest of the afternoon was chat time and we played “how do I stay out of the sun”. Surprisingly difficult game. No further worries, unless it is our CO2 and soot footprint. 4 days of motorbikes to get through the doldrums pffffff.
I'll dive straight back into my lovely bunk. Because yes, bedtime is 7 p.m.
Greetings,
Ton and Mark
